Research

The first stop on my trip will be St Petersburg in Russia. I thought that since I'll be there in less than two weeks, I should do some research on all the historical buildings. Some proper research because I don't think watching Anastasia counts. Or does it?

Anyway, I was reading up on the Winter Palace when I came across a museum called the Kunstkamera museum. Even though I speak fluent Russian, I still think it's an odd name. But don't worry, it gets even weirder.

Built in 1727 on the Neva Riverfront (the third largest river in Europe) this museum is dedicated to preserving "natural and human curiosities and rarities". Intrigued? So was I, until I decided to search on Google Images.

At first, my intention was to find images depicting the building exterior but instead I found mutated babies in jars. I guess this is what they meant by "curiosities and rarities". After some further reading I found that the museum holds a large collection of human and animal foetus's with anatomical deformities.

What do you guys think, very cool or very gruesome?

  1. How's that for a biology class?
"Good morning class, please turn to page 177 of your text book, and we'll take a vote as to which deformed foetus is most likely to feature in the next horror movie about the Antichrist."

Enjoy your trip, can't wait to see more pics!
